What is Permanent Makeup?

eobQ. Is it safe?

A. Yes. It is the implanting of pigment into the skin, also known as micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing. Pigments used in Permanent Makeup have been extensively tested, and have been used safely on literally millions of people for years. All state requirements are followed for proper sanitation and instruments are individually packaged, sterile and disposable.  All pigments used by Evolutions Of Beauty are specifically designed and formulated for use with permanent makeup.

Q. Who benefits from Permanent Makeup?

A. Women and men alike. Permanent makeup is very popular with busy people that have little time available for applying makeup. Another group drawn to the benefits of permanent makeup include people with allergies to conventional makeup; those with oily skin or those whose makeup comes off easily; burn survivors and people with flaws in their skin; people with arthritis, unsteady hands or have problems seeing things up close; men and women who seek correction of asymmetrical facial features; entertainers, actresses and models. In essence, anyone who desires freedom from daily makeup application and those who wish to look their best all the time are good candidates for permanent cosmetic makeup.

Q. Is the permanent makeup procedure painful?

A. Most procedures are virtually pain free; however, everyone's perception of discomfort varies to some degree.  Topical anesthetics are applied before and during the procedure to minimize/alleviate any discomfort that may be present.  Eyebrows are least sensitive, then the lips and the eyes tend to be the most sensitive.  However, majority of clients state that it is not actually painful, but just a weird or odd feeling with someone working close to the eye.

Q. What is involved in recovery?

A. There will be slight swelling and redness in the skin, however it will subside quickly. You may resume normal activities immediately after the procedure. Initial healing takes about one week; however, complete healing takes up to six weeks while the pigmentation matures and reaches its final color.  During the initial healing phase, you will need to protect the areas from the sun with a visor or sunglasses and apply ointment to aid with healing.  Once this phase is complete, you will still need to protect your color with sunscreen whenever you will be exposed for a moderate amount of time.

Q. Suppose eyebrow styles change?

A. Your new eyebrow shape will be based on your own preferences in combination with the technician's suggestions for a classic shape that will compliment your features and will not go out of style.  Your natural brow line is used as a base to work from, and unless you are determined to have an elaborate style, only subtle, natural-looking styles are used.

Q. What if I change my hair color and want to change my eyebrow color?

A. If you should change your mind at a later date, the color can be changed; however, most colors that are used/recommended would be something that would look good with your skin tone, no matter what color you decide to have your hair.

Q. How soon afterward can I go out?

A. Immediately! For the first few days, you will look like you are wearing your makeup heavier than usual. Sometimes a slight drying/crusting is barely visible, but usually not enough to be obvious.  The following morning after the eyeliner procedure, you may have some puffiness like you get from crying the night before; however, applying a cold compress for a few minutes before getting ready will lessen this scenario.

Q. Should I wear makeup to the appointment?

A. Definitely! This will allow the technician to see what your preferences are. We will then make suggestions to help you perfect your look before the procedure is performed.  Keep in mind, if you don't wear much makeup under normal circumstances, that is fine too.  A consultation is always performed prior to any procedure to discuss styles, colors and effect wanting to be achieved.  This allows a more subtle and appealing look that will accentuate your features in a way that you will feel comfortable with.

This information is intended as an introduction to permanent makeup. When considering this procedure, you should feel comfortable asking for any additional information you may need. Technicians should be certified in the specialty of Intradermal Pigmentation and dedicated to the highest standards of patient welfare, implement sterilization, and procedure excellence.  All technicians should always have a portfolio containing their work, that can be viewed as well.  Any and all questions are welcomed!
